L’Ère du clash, published in 2019, is presented by its author, Christian Salmon, as a continuation of the book Storytelling: La machine à fabriquer des histoires et à formater les esprits, published a dozen years prior. But this work studies a disruption in communication techniques: from the omnipresent narrative, which undermines reasoning, we move on to the technique of shocks and ruptures, which destroys the narrative and is based on the discrediting of all sources of information. However, the book not only deals with this upheaval; it also includes the analysis of storytelling. Its reading therefore leads us to examine not only the relationships between this discrediting and communication techniques, but also those between narration and argumentation, which are particularly complex. This examination leads us to suggest a reintroduction of a sociological approach to communication in the analysis of the developments discussed in the book.
