The Origin and Purpose of the Ideal City: War in Greek Philosophy

In ancient Greece, war seems to be the normal state of Cities. However, philosophy does not take care of such phenomena when it studies origin or aim of political unities. Plato and Aristotle sticks to an ideal of autarcy and fair middle, rejecting enmity as a mechanism which could destroy the essence of City. This thinking results from fear of hubris, research of virtue and hence, the need of wisdom.
