This article describes the relationship between innovation and planning processes of the SME of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. We present the results obtained through the analysis of 409 enterprises, as well as two case studies of technological companies that describe these practices. The results show that innovative companies have a positive correlation between the generation of new products and operational planning, and a negative relationship between innovation and strategic planning and into the objectives determination. In this way, the comparison between the two types of study allows to find a convergence among the operational planning implementation in the sustainability of the SME.
