This article examines the potential connection between the public financing that associations receive and the gender wage gap between the men and women who work for them. To do so, the authors have compared two datasets: the INSEE’s “Associations 2014” survey, which provides a snapshot of these organizations as of 2013, and the Déclarations annuelles de données sociales (DADS) (Annual Declaration of Social Data) for the same year. The results of this comparison show that, in most cases, the gender wage gap is smaller in associations whose budgets include a higher proportion of public financing. Now that public authorities can include social clauses in public procurement, this research opens the door to new ways to ensure professional equality between men and women.
