Based on an ethnographic study through participant observation and interviews in a Thai boxing gym in a working-class banlieue, this article analyses the modalities of the transmission of Thai boxing and its social effects. The learning process of Thai boxing is a form of socialization for the virile fractions of the working-class banlieue youth that brings them sport knowledge, ways of being, and a social status. I show the teaching and supervision of the trainers only begin to be mildly recognized by the municipality despite the gym’s long history.
