What is at stake in the debate on the committees in charge of supervision and police during the French Revolution is in keeping with the origin and nature of the revolutionary mode of government. But such committees often had a specific composition, definitely popular, and they allow us to make interesting social investigations, since those organs embodied the main mental bias of the time and eventually enmeshed the whole country. To emulate other recent experiments, we propose to set up a collective research guide to help students and researchers in their work with documentary material and methodological advice. The Aix team could pursue its effort and implement this project for which all persons of good will are welcome.
