The increasing tendency to quantitave and utilitarian evaluation, in all domains of activity, is seriously affecting also scientific research. This text hints to the theses of a large number of scientists, who oppose this tendency as it may prevent long term commitments, originality and depth in scientific work, it may force within well-established frames and othodox thinking.
