Ancient Epicurean philosophers consider economy as the concrete form of ethics, in its individual and social aspects. The discipline of desires, based on the concept of limitation, favours completeness and self-sufficiency against accumulation, and gives rise to a social economy based on friendship and gift relation. In this context, wealth is no more harmful but helpful to happiness, that is ataraxia. Economic domestic life, that consists in family life management and household, is then transformed into a process of constitution of a free and happy relation to the world that is unique to man. Economy can then be considered as the main concrete form of wisdom according to Epicurean philosophers.
