This article publishes André Green’s answers to the questions put by the Revue du MAUSS semestrielle on the efficacy of the psychoanalysis about individual emancipation as a wider item. In this exercise, the author shows himself pessimistic, doubtless, that most of his peers questioned in the same Review. Psychoanalysis aims at decreasing the dependence towards the infantile fixations, he asserts, and nevertheless, he adds, “if the subject having made an analysis would be capable of freeing itself from its masochist trends, it would be a significant advantage.”
