Over the last thirty years, a wealth of research has shed light on the dynamics of Senegalese international emigration. Alongside numerous qualitative studies, some quantitative surveys were conducted from a transnational perspective. Using a series of unique statistical outputs (EMUS 1993; RGPH 2002; MAFE 2008), we propose to analyze the recent period of international emigration from Senegal. This is done by comparing the EMUS data with the last Senegalese census at the national level and by examining changes in migration trends from Dakar since the 1970s. This study questions the notion that Senegalese emigration has intensified and reveals the importance of Senegalese regions in the evolution of migratory flows and the distribution of destinations.
