In 2007, the government created a new research and higher education evaluation agency (AÉRES). While a part of the scientific community criticized it, some academics got involved in the agency. By highlighting the reasons for this commitment, this article provides insight into the transformations of evaluation by peers and of the legitimate ways of doing research. It draws the portrait of the scientists who relay these reforms and revisits the line between neo-managerial logic and professional logic, showing how academics promote greater control over the practices of their colleagues.
