This article aims to show that solidarity economy is torn between being a social movement and being a set of economic activities, and that “quality devices” (charters, certifications…) make it possible to reconcile these different dimensions. Some of the most active members of this sector assert the critical dimension of their action. They foster the creation of devices that aim to define and preserve a collective identity, ultimately constituting modes of action and tools of mobilization that make possible a social movement.
