This article sheds light on the crisis management practices during the Covid-19 pandemic in four collective and supported mental health housing units. It is based on the analysis of regular interviews conducted with professionals from March 2020 to June 2020. The collective housing units followed the guidelines for healthcare and social welfare, as they sought a frame of reference to protect the inhabitants from the virus. During the lockdown, support services usually provided in these units (and which are mainly designed to promote autonomy in daily life) were reduced. Professionals focused on prevention and preservation of the social link with the residents. Relaxation of lockdown measures was cautious and gradual. Professionals, faced with new challenges and dilemmas in reconciling the principles of protection and autonomy, had to redefine their practices.
