The analysis of a survey carried out by disability consultants in the French civil service in 2019 shows that these professionals work in a complex area of expertise to successfully complete a range of projects. Analysis of the survey data highlights heterogeneity in the work conditions, as well as statistically significant correlations between certain working conditions, the civil service aspect and the feeling of recognition. Disability consultants in the regional civil service appear to enjoy both better working conditions and greater recognition of their role than those in the healthcare branch of the civil service and the state civil service. Although the 2019 change to the civil service announced that “the employer ensures that the disability consultant has, during their working hours, the capacities needed to carry out their jobs”, it seems that working hours are the most discriminating variable.
