Coming from a minority of the Reformation, the Anabaptists Mennonites migrated from Switzerland to the Kingdom of France in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. They form a people apart because of their origins, their language and way of life. Those living in France today are mostly descendants of several families that followed Jakob Ammann at the Amish schism of 1693. But unlike their cousins who had emigrated to the United States since the early nineteenth century, they have lost all social visibility and were integrated. Public records are no longer state of religion after 1850, he had to invent other ways to describe their distribution in France. This is especially insee files, genealogy databases and conscription lists.
