Alceste is a statistical textual analysis software that extracts quantitative results from qualitative studies. It allows the fundamental data structuring a document (called a corpus) to be extracted in an objective way. Human resource management covers various areas of expertise dealing with skills, efficiency management, or organizational commitment. Few authors have mobilized this tool in their studies so far. This article investigates how Alceste software can contribute to human resource management research by focusing on the analysis of career management in the context of state-owned companies. Some researchers specializing in human resource management use Alceste software to analyze various kind of supports in different research contexts. They often mix their results with other tools of analysis. In the context of career management in state-owned companies, Alceste shows the structuring elements in the respondent’s concerns regarding their career perception. It highlights a clash between the lower management population and the cadres at the SNCB (National Railway Company of Belgium).
