This article studies the process of identification (Tap 2005) of people in professional transition, from salaried employee to self-employed. Based on several successive observations and on a corpus of interviews, this study shows that three professional identities are possible during this transition, all of them strongly linked to a temporal dimension and to mechanisms of identity narration.
