The support of entrepreneurs and managers is an ardent national obligation, because the development of companies—and in particular SMEs—is the main lever for creating productive jobs and economic value. But these ones are faced with an environment marked by the “VUCA model” (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) generated by the combination of multiple factors: the acceleration of technological progress (particularly in ICT), the intensification of competition, the emergence of a normative hyperlexis, the development of the circular economy and, in general, the mutation of society, consumers’ needs, employees expectations and citizens will. In order to adapt to this new environment, entrepreneurs and managers need to exercise new responsibilities, acquire new skills and therefore call upon new forms of support. They must become “digital, augmented, collaborative, agile and responsible leaders” (Léon, Dejoux, 2018), to ensure the launch, development or survival of their projects. All surveys show that entrepreneurial or managerial assistance significantly reduces the failure rate of SMEs. However, in France, the support offer mobilises a multiplicity of public and private players belonging to networks and territories, whose missions are disparate and performance is uneven. Despite the scale of these resources, the 3,820,000 French SMEs and SMBs (as of 1 January 2018) still suffer from structural handicaps attributed to a lack of financing in the creation phase and support in the development or turnaround phase…

The research shows how the support of innovative companies can follow a collective learning process involving the stakeholders of its innovation ecosystem. This process involves mobilizing stakeholder networks, convening disciplines and operating processes that are most relevant to the different links in the value chain and phases of the supported enterprise lifecycle. The action research tests the efficiency of a unifying support structure bringing together practitioners from several professions and researchers from various disciplines.
