The study of human exchanges and interactions among different currents, fields of research (such as linguistics, psychology and sociology) or prisms concerning topogenetic, mesogenetic and chronogenetic aspects (Kostulski, 2001) has enriched our understanding of the mechanisms governing communication as a system of highly coordinated social activities.
In social psychology and in the field of organizational behavior management, the “social” nature of speech, conversation, and verbal interaction is recognized as a dynamic process and a form of organization. If linguistic features such as grammar or lexicon are easily identifiable and relevant to describe and analyze the construction of social identity, numerous studies have shown the benefits of considering “the identity of humans in society—(…) real, imaginary, fictitious, or even objective or subjective” (Lecolle, 2013, p. 2, our translation). Nevertheless, conversation refers to a set of actions which fall within the competence of interaction, although “the entanglement of multiple resources and the situated nature of the interactional competence make it difficult to observe, describe and standardize them” (Fasel Lauzon, Pekarek Doehler & Pochon-Berger, 2009, p. 121, our translation). The activities that are performed by interlocutors during exchanges in different settings (professional, private, formal, informal, etc.) constitute privileged situations for the studying of social identity and the analyzing of a conversation as a system of coordinated social activities…

Within the field of psychosociology and management of organizational behaviors, the analysis of interactions around disagreements in the workplace is a central topic. This paper introduces a case study connected to a situation of concert preparation during which two groups (musicians and technicians) meet for the organization and the technical operations of a show. Our main objective is to analyze the emerging disagreements in terms of their form, structure and meaning, as well as to identify the interactants’ positioning within their professional group. A qualitative discursive and argumentative analysis was conducted. Results show the emergence of various modalities in the management of disagreements during the exchanges observed in the workplace, as well as elements related to the affiliation to the groups involved in the conflicts. This case study shows the potential of interactions analysis in a workplace to better understand the linguistic phenomena that are related to the participants’ conduct and to their production-mobilization-circulation of knowledge connected to situated professional practices.
