The present proposal has the aim to frame and to clarify the basic concept of Universal Repetition at Gabriel Tarde. One allots to Gabriel Tarde the monomanie of the concept of the imitation. It is without counting on the solidarity of the two other methods of the triptych tardien – the opposition and the adaptation – which makes conspicuous and determines the propagation of the social facts. The deaf mechanics of the imitation, the opposition and the adaptation which engages at the time of each social invention melts its rotation on the idea of the Universal Repetition which does not consist of the reproduction of same. All the difficulty of the clarification of this concept rests on the assimilation of this essential nuance.
