From a qualitative localized survey combining repeated interviews, observations, and personal archives, this article deals with the practice of using false addresses by certain cultural fractions of the elite to bypass the school map system. Relying on the sociology of law and the sociology of education, the analysis questions the social and contextual conditions of this strategy. Subsequently, the article analyzes the resources, the know-how, the apprenticeships, and the administrative procedures necessary to produce a false address. This paper underlines the ambivalent relations with the law and with the state that sufficiently connected social groups maintain in order to successfully manipulate legal rules.
