English
Durkheim and Tönnies exchanged points of view on society and its knowledge through a series of reviews that are compiled here in their entirety starting with the first French translation of Tönnies' critiques (1893, 1896, 1898). An analysis of this dialogue through intervening reviews reveals that the theoretical and methodological opposition between these two men is coupled with an axiological opposition concerning their respective evaluations of modern society. It is the logic of this opposition that we would also like to highlight before revealing the elements in the file.
