How can we analyze account books? Drawing on an ethnographic case study of an overindebted family, this article shows how practices of “ordinary writing” can contribute to our understanding of the financialization of everyday economic practices. Scholars will find methodological guidelines for the analysis of written archives and literacy events within the area of everyday financial practices, especially with regard to the impact of financialization on the microsociological scale of household budgets as well as the temporality of trajectories of over-indebtedness.
